Important State Deadline Changes for Financial Aid

* Update as of 3/24/2017: New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) and the New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) announced the extension of the state deadline to renew (New Jersey) state aid. More information is available at hesaa.org.

The new state deadline for filing the 2017-18 FAFSA has been extended to June 1 to accommodate the unavailability of the federal IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT). Please note, you can still file your FAFSA without using the DRT.

You may have heard about the FAFSA deadline changes, but did you know these affect the deadlines for state aid as well?

New Jersey deadlines for consideration for the Tuition Aid Grant (TAG), Governor’s Urban Scholarship, and NJ STARS II programs are also changing. If you don’t meet these new deadlines, there’s a chance you’ll lose a significant amount of state aid.

The 2017-18 FAFSA is available now, so don’t delay!

New Deadlines for State Aid

The Rutgers priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is January 15, 2017. To be considered for all available funding, you should file before this deadline. If you don’t file the FAFSA by June 1, 2017*, you will not be considered for state aid like TAG – even if you have received this grant before.

After you’ve file the FAFSA, you will need to submit all verification documents to the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) before the September 15, 2017 deadline to stay eligible.

The 2017-18 FAFSA is already available. Review more changes taking place this year and apply for financial aid now!
