What to Do Over Break

  • Take a class. If you’re looking to boost your GPA or get back on track, Rutgers offers a variety of winter classes.  If you aren’t looking to take an academic class, take this time to foster a hobby or an interest.
  • Complete your FAFSA. Why not give yourself the gift of financial aid? You’ll be at home which means you’ll likely have access to all of the paperwork needed to complete the FAFSA.
  • Apply for scholarships. You can always use extra money for the upcoming semester.
  • Update your resume. A great deal has probably changed from the last time you’ve touched your resume.Dust it off and upgrade it. Check out career services for tips and tricks.
  • Start something new. Try out the new bakery you’ve been itching to visit. Start that painting that’s been bugging you.There are tons of retailers in need of extra employees during the holiday season.
  • Clean out your room a bit. While you may not exactly be moving out, you don’t live at home anymore. Make use of your time at home and clear out some of your old belongings.
  • Apply for and start an internship. Search for companies that align with your intended major.
  • Get started on those resolutions. Start forming those habits before we get back to school.
  • Run errands. Use the break as a period to run errands that you didn’t have time to do during the school year. Do small things like cleaning your car or cutting your hair.
  • Exercise. Now is a better time than ever to step in the gym and break a sweat. Work off those calories you’ve earned during your Netflix binge sessions.
  • Spend time with your family. If you live on campus, chances are you seldom see your family members. Use this time to catch up and enjoy their company.
  • Get off the couch and do some good. Look for local volunteer opportunities.
  • Go on an adventure. Whether it be a local hiking trail or a legitimate vacation, take this time to go and see someplace new. If traveling peaks your interest, check out Rutgers Global.
  • Watch your favorite shows. College can be demanding and at times you’re not able to sit back and watch your favorite shows.
  • Go to your doctor. Chances are your primary doctors are near your home. It won’t hurt to get those check-ups and physicals out the way.
  • Link up with your high school friends. You’ll be at home during the same time, so it won’t hurt to relive old times.
  • Enjoy the (free) food. Soak in all of the home cooking while you can, it’s only a matter of time before you’re back on campus.
  • Read a book. You can never read enough books and gain enough knowledge.
  • Do absolutely nothing. Take the time to decompress and reflect from the semester before you gear up for the next one!
