Welcome back to another exciting installment of RU Working Wednesday! Today we will be highlighting The Rutgers Geology Museum, which was founded in 1872 and is located in Geology Hall at 85 Somerset Street, New Brunswick. The museum’s mission is to enhance university teaching and outreach programs through its presentation of geological, mineralogical, paleontological and anthropologic materials for the education and enjoyment of its visitors. The museum offers unique experiences that help to develop visitors’ knowledge of the natural world.
Today we had the opportunity of meeting with Student Manager, Erika Alfaro, and Student Assistants, Nisarg Baboo, Zariah Cartwright, Hermonise Augusto, Michaelah Valentine, Naomi Nivar and Taniya Arora. As Student Manager, Erika oversees the other student employees and helps to maintain the cleanliness and organization of the museum. She is also responsible for giving tours as wells as hosting museum late nights and other functions.
The Student Assistants interact with visitors, help out at events such as birthday parties and open houses, maintain the store inventory and clean the exhibits. The students can agree that their favorite aspect of the job is interacting with a diverse community and meeting new people at the events throughout the year.
Well, that’s it for this week’s highlight! We will return next week with another exciting installment!
